Contract award, “Greater Ekofisk Renewal Project” Print E-mail

Master Marine is an offshore service company, specialising in the transportation and offshore installation of heavy structures for the oil and gas industry. Currently the company has two Service Jack Construction vessels under construction at the Drydocks World yard in Indonesia. The first vessel will be delivered Q1 2010 and the second vessel Q3 2010.

Master Marine is pleased to announce that the first vessel known as  "Service Jack 1” has recently been awarded a contract with ConocoPhillips Scandinavia for the Ekofisk Renewal Project. The company is very proud and honoured to enter into this long term co-operation with ConocoPhillips.

The vessel has been contracted as a Jack up accommodation Unit. By utilising the free deck space area, the accommodation capacity is increased from 260 beds to 447. In addition the vessel will be outfitted with recreation areas, offices, workshops etc. The two large revolving cranes will be replaced by a smaller crane, making the vessel more suitable as an accommodation Unit. These modifications will add a total of 65 million Euro to the investment costs, so that the total all inclusive cost for this vessel will be 265 million Euro.

The contract award is for a fixed 3 year charter, with the option for additional 24 months extension (2 X 12 months). The gross contract value for the fixed period is in excess of 260 million Euro and mobilisation will be in July 2010. The new accommodation unit will replace some of the currently operated accommodation vessels/platforms on the Ekofisk Complex. The Service Jack’s unique design offers increased stability and meets the 10.000 year  North Sea wave criteria. In addition the new unit will serve as a support vessel for the upcoming “Greater Ekofisk Area” offshore campaigns. In the contract it is stipulated that the unit can be utilised at the Ekofisk Complex, Greater Ekofisk Area and/or the North Sea Business Unit area, meaning any of the ConocoPhillips facilities in the Norwegian and UK sectors of the North Sea. This contract illustrates the true versatility that the “Service Jack” represents and the flexibility it offers.

ConocoPhillips brought Norway into the oil industry by discovering the Ekofisk field 180 miles off the country's southwest coast in 1969. At this time ConocoPhillips estimated production through the 1990's. However this initial estimate has dramatically changed and the oil company can now promise to keep the North Sea oil flowing from Ekofisk until 2050.

The  “Service Jack 2” is planned to be constructed as a Construction vessel with the capacity of performing topside and jacket installations by tandem lift (up to 1500 T revolving crane capacity) or single lift topside installations by  skidding (up to 7200 T capacity). In order to reduce offshore hook-up time, the Service Jack can handle fully integrated and commissioned topsides from onshore fabrication site, including load out using its own gear, transportation to field using its own propulsion, positioning at field using its own propulsion/DP system, elevating the laden hull by using the Service Jack's jacking system, offshore load transfer of whole topside in one single operation by skidding and working as tender barge during the hook up phase. This reduces or eliminates the need for additional support/service vessels during the installation and hook-up and commissioning phase.

In addition to the offshore oil and gas industry, Master Marine sees great potential in the Renewable Energy Sector in particular related to wind farm installations where the unit with it’s stability and extreme crane range will be very well suited.

Unit number two has been tendered for several opportunities, and the company is currently in contractual negotiations also for this unit.
